What readers are saying about Dog eat Doug “If you like Calvin and Hobbes, then this is a must read. It is full of ridiculous references and subtle yet very effective humor. I LOVE dog eat Doug.” - Ethan “Love dogs, love kids, this is the comic strip and book for me. Yes there is an homage to Calvin & Hobbes and even Peanuts, but this strip has a charm all it's own and I love it. Even named our dog Sophie.” - Kellie Russ “Page after page of laugh out loud fun. I've been reading about Doug and Sophie for a while and just love their adventures. This is a good read for all ages.” - Ruth Craig “It took a long time to find a comic that could replace Calvin and Hobbes for me.” - Peter Mol “Brian Anderson is a genius. I love his writing and his characters are ever endearing. My only gripe about this second collection of Sophie the Lab, baby Doug and their family is the book ends far too soon - I wish there were more! You can't go wrong with Brian Anderson, his stories and art. Enjoy!” - Banzai In the spirit of Snoopy and Charlie Brown, or Calvin and Hobbes, Dog eat Doug is the cartooning creation of Brian Anderson that follows the daily exploits of Sophie, a cheese-loving chocolate Lab with a nose for the nuances of sarcasm and irony, and baby Doug, a healthy, happy newborn with no concept of jealousy and a limitless curiosity. Together, this dynamic duo adjusts to sharing the spotlight, the toys, and the affections of Mom and Dad, while exploring nature and its majesty, the couch and its cushions, and the cookie jar and its contents. Volume 10! Whew… I’ve now read all volumes from 1-10. I’ve got to say that overall the series is pretty decent. If I still got a newspaper and it was a comic in the paper I would read it everyday. Is this truly on the level of Calvin & Hobbes? No, it has its moments but it rarely reaches that level of genuine awesomeness, although it has potential, after 10 volumes I don’t think it is ever going to reach that potential. Volume 10 is similar to Volume 9, more in the short story lines and less of the longer story lines. No Alabama Lab in this one which is disappointing to me.The art as always is fantastic. The writing is again mediocre but again better now they have the interactions with the cats as well. I just wish the author would do more story lines like Alabama Lab and other longer story lines poking fun at modern pop culture. Instead most of the jabs are just short one comic panel one liners.

Dog eat Doug Volume 10 The Tenth Comic Strip Collection Brian Anderson 9781546515470 Books Reviews
The laughs just keep coming. Anderson still doesn't give the cats cat eyes, but he's got their behavior nailed. Sophie and Doug are as cute and drooly as ever, and the squirrels and other friends and neighbors add their own surrealism. I just read through 5 volumes in less than 5 days, and consider it time very well spent.
Definitely a fun read and I can safely say the only book where nefarious cats mix quantum field theory with string theory to get the best of poor long suffering Sophie, the title dog. Of course, Sophie gets her licks in too, supporting the "free the socks so that they can get ripped apart" campaign, tripping humans carrying food to create "snack time", and stealing innumerable treats from Doug. Just the thing if you want many good laughs to brighten your day.
It is a well known fact that dogs and obscure science fiction and fantasy references go together as well as dogs and babies do.
That's why the dog eat Doug comic strip is one off my favorites. That and the adorable Sofie reminds me of my own family's furry trouble maker.
This tenth collection was as cute and funny as the rest. I just wish it had more lot references to go with the amazing cover art.
As always, Dog eat Doug made me laugh! And so many situations ring true. I didn't know the strips were out in book form. I'll read more of them. Recommended!
The loveliness of the artwork is unique and refreshing, but add to that the sweet humor AND the bizarre characters who show up, and this is a strip that has something for everybody. The interactions between Sophie and Doug, and his parents, and all varieties of life (real or otherwise?) around her truly mean there's never a dull moment. And again, the drawings are a nice change from giant-nosed, freakishly proportioned people and animals in other strips. Anderson is a wonderful throwback to more visually eloquent times.
Brian Anderson never ceases to entertain. Anyone who has had a dog, or a child, or both, will relate. His strips are amusing, hilarious, gut wrenching, and heart rending at times. His artwork is well done, and sometimes on a Sunday panel he does absolutely magical artwork.
The only other books I've ever gotten for comics were from Watterson, for Calvin and Hobbes. So for me, the fact that I have these books at all is one of the highest compliments I can pay.
Definitely about the best strip out there now. Always entertaining and heartwarming.
You know something's funny when you're laughing out loud in the middle of a crowded subway car. There's a strip in this book with Doug on a backyard swing that pays homage to Hitchcock's THE BIRDS, after a fashion....anyway, as a person, who has aggressive squirrels in his yard, as well, I exploded with laughter and probably annoyed at least 10 passengers around me...but it was worth it!
From maniacal cats, toast-obsessed water fowl and much, much more, you've got to check out the adventures of Baby Doug, and his beloved pooch, Sophie! Brian Anderson, you're a national treasure!
